DENVER — TRVE Brewing Company has announced their inaugural can release slated for Saturday, May 19th at 12pm MST from their taproom.
The announcement marks the brewery’s first foray into canned offerings in its nearly six-year history. Seven Doors Grisette-Style Ale and Cosmic Crypt Farmhouse Pale Ale are the first two core brands on the docket to be followed by a variety of offerings throughout the summer from their production facility called The Acid Temple.
“The Acid Temple is where we focus on rustic, dry farmhouse beers with varying levels of acid and dry-hopping that range from subtle to forthcoming,” explains Nick Nunns, Founder of TRVE Brewing Co. “We feel like our Acid Temple beers, whether they are single or mixed culture, are innately approachable and balanced. They’re every-day drinking beers and we want the vessel to reflect the intention of what’s inside.”
TRVE is utilizing a process called can conditioning by which the beer undergoes re-fermentation in the can; a practice that has long been integral to the Denver brewery.
“We wanted to fully can condition because it’s best for dissolved oxygen levels and gives the beer a more rounded and nuanced mouthfeel and flavor profile.” says Zach Coleman, Head Brewer. “Because most of our beer is bottle or keg conditioned, we decided we wanted to stick with what’s familiar to us and what we excel at.”
Consumers can still expect to see locally-focused seasonal, collaborations, and spontaneously fermented beer offerings in 375ml and 500ml bottles at Colorado and out-of-state retailers. Current distribution plans for the 16oz. four-pack cans are to be determined with a brewery only release model at present.
“We are still playing with our volumes, and our capacity and staff are still fairly small,” states Nunns. “Our plan is to release cans at our taproom first and only and then lean into the Denver beer scene to inform our distribution plans.”
Seven Doors is Grisette-style ale fermented with French saison yeast, and dry-hopped with Tettnang, Grungeist, and Styrian Wolf hops. Cosmic Crypt is a Farmhouse Pale Ale fermented with Belgian Farmhouse yeast and dry hopped with Mosaic and Mandarina Bavaria hops. Both offerings will be available Saturday, May 19th at 12pm at TRVE Brewing’s taproom on North Broadway.
“We’ve tried incredibly hard to create a unique niche brand that still maintains a degree of accessibility,” states Nunns. “Being that we’re a metal brewery, the packaging material seems like a given.”
