The Brewer(s) reports to the Production Manager / Director of Brewing and is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the Civil Society Brewing production facility from grain to can. The Brewer will have a fundamental understanding of the brewing process, all day to day operations, processes and equipment. The Brewer will have very strong communication and be able to collaborate with team members. The Brewer will have a strong ability to immediately address, troubleshoot and correct any issues that may arise in production. This will include bettering / creating processes and/or protocol to keep safety of staff and quality of beer at extremely high standards.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Manage the brewing, cellar, and packaging to ensure safe, effective & efficient workflow.
- Ensure daily documentation is recorded accurately and completely.
- Work with Production Manager / Director of Brewing to ensure all products are on schedule to be
completed and packaged on time.
- Address and correct any issues, reporting to management with any major issues or delays.
- Work with management/maintenance to troubleshoot or repair any faulty equipment.
- Facilitate future growth of the brewery through continuous optimization of current process.
- Constantly looking for and encouraging team members to improve safety, quality and efficiency of all
aspects of production.
- Manage inventory of all brewing ingredients, working with the Production Manager / Director of
Brewing ensuring all ingredients are available to meet production schedules.
- Work with the Production Manager / Director of Brewing to facilitate, install, and train on new
equipment
- Promote a fun workplace culture of education, safety, creativity & collaboration.
- Independently and efficiently prioritize personal responsibilities and general brewery needs.
- All other tasks as needed.
Skills and Experience
- Must be 21 years of age at the time of application
- Ability to work independently and with others
- Ability to strictly adhere to established recipes, processes, and SOPs
- Strong ability to multitask, troubleshoot, problem solve and execute plans of action.
- Must be mechanically inclined, able to take apart and rebuild a variety of equipment.
- Strong desire to learn, teach and collaborate.
- Self starter. Must be able to, and enjoy starting projects with little or no guidance.
- Must be computer literate and be able to work efficiently with google suite, docs and spreadsheets.
experience with Ekos brewery management software is a plus
- Awesome attitude at all times, especially while handling difficult and stressful situations.
- Desire to work in a fast paced and rapidly growing company.
- Responsible for documentation of brewing activities
- Must be able to brewer have a creative/experimental outlook of beer.
- Willing to work early mornings, evenings and weekends.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Able to regularly kneel, climb, bend, crawl, twist, lift and carry 55 pounds.
- Able to stand, walk, be on your feet for long periods of time.
- Able to move 200+ pounds using appropriate equipment.
- Able to work in an environment which may be hot, cold, loud and/or slippery.
- Able to work in mentally stressful situations in the conditions listed above.
