Temperance Beer Co. Announces the Tenth Release of Might Meets Right Barrel-Aged Stouts

EVANSTON, Ill.— Temperance Beer Co. is proud to announce its tenth release of Might Meets Right barrel-aged stouts. Recalling the first release — which was aged in High West Barreled Manhattan barrels and one High West Barreled Boulevardier barrel — the tenth release harkens back to a time when the barrels played the starring role. This year, the imperial stout was aged Basil Hayden Toast Bourbon barrels and Russell’s Reserve Rye Barrels.

“We are always looking for unique barrels for Might Meets Right,” said Temperance founder Josh Gilbert, “because they bring out different characteristics of the stout before any adjuncts are added.” This year’s portfolio moves away from adjunct-heavy variants, “so we jumped at the chance to use these incredible barrels,” Gilbert explained.

The decision to choose just one adjunct in the blended variants reinforces the back-to-basic ethos of the 2023 Might Meets Right offerings. “Chocolate and vanilla are two prominent flavors that develop as the stout ages in oak barrels,” pointed out Head Brewer Connor Scanlan. “Using vanilla for one variant and cacao for the other allows us to really showcase those flavors.”

All four variants will be released to the public on Friday, November 3, 2023 at noon on draft, in a variety four-pack that includes one of each variant, as well as two-packs of each variant, both in 12 oz cans.

The 2023 Might Meets Right Variants:

Basil Hayden Toast (13.7% alc/vol)

Aged in Basil Hayden Toast Bourbon Barrels — The rich dark malts mellow and take on notes of dried fruit, caramelized sugar, and toasted oak.

Russell’s Reserve 6 Year Old Rye (13.3% alc/vol)

Aged in Russell’s Reserve 6 Year Old Rye Barrels — The rich dark malts mellow and take on notes of allspice, pepper, and almond.

Chocolate (13.5% alc/vol)

Aged in Basil Hayden Toast Bourbon & Russell’s Reserve 6 Year Old Rye Barrels — We blend both the bourbon and rye barrels and then let it sit on cacao nibs to bring out the chocolate malt notes.

Vanilla (13.5% alc/vol)

Aged in Basil Hayden Toast Bourbon & Russell’s Reserve 6 Year Old Rye Barrels — We blend both the bourbon and rye barrels and then let it sit on vanilla beans to bring out vanillin notes from aging in oak whiskey barrels.

Temperance Beer Co. is also hosting a Sneak Peek event on Wednesday, November 1st from 7-9 pm. This is an extremely limited opportunity to be among the first to experience the variants before the general public. Attendees will be the first to enjoy a 6 oz pour of each variant ($28 value) and take home a mixed four-pack ($36.99 value), take home a gorgeous Edel 35cL/11.75 oz Temperance stemmed glass ($9 value), mingle with fellow barrel-aged beer enthusiasts, and the brewers who brought this year’s vintage to life.
