Molson Coors issued a “voluntary withdrawal” of some SKUs of Coors Light and Keystone Light last week, a spokesperson told Brewbound.
“At Molson Coors, quality is our top priority, so when we recently became aware of a quality issue on some packs of Coors Light and Keystone Light produced at the Trenton Brewery, we chose to voluntarily withdraw those packs from the market,” the company said in a statement. “While we have chosen to voluntarily withdraw these packs, there are no food health risks associated with the product.”
Coors Light and Keystone Light were the only affected brands. The quality issue came to light in videos that went viral on social media platforms in which drinkers emptied cans on camera that poured out a substance that looked more similar to syrup than beer.
The issue was isolated to tall 12 oz. cans produced at the company’s brewery in Trenton, Ohio. Affected SKUs include Coors Light 12 oz. can 12-, 18-, 24- and 30-packs and Keystone Light 12 oz. can 15- and 30-packs, according to a post on the website of Dierbergs, a grocery chain in the St. Louis area that is providing full refunds to consumers who purchased any of the affected packages.
Molson Coors has begun shipping product from other breweries, and the issue at the Trenton Brewery “has since been resolved,” the statement said.
“Work is already underway to replenish inventory as quickly as possible,” it read. “Because our national inventory position on these SKUs is stronger than it has been in years, we are able to divert production into this market area from other breweries beginning this week.”
