Molson Coors has begun selling Topo Chico Hard Seltzer in the brand’s iconic 12 oz. glass bottle in seven markets, the company announced.
Topo Chico Hard Seltzer’s Strawberry Guava (4.7% ABV, 100 calories) flavor will be sold in 12-packs of glass bottles in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and the Chicagoland area. The addition of glass bottles will be one that sticks moving forward.
“There’s something incredibly special about drinking Topo Chico Hard Seltzer straight from the bottle and we can’t wait for drinkers to pop something with a bit more character this season and beyond,” Matt Escalante, senior director of hard seltzers at Molson Coors Beverage Company, said in a press release.
The move into the glass bottle also marks the first time that Molson Coors has produced the seltzer in-house, at the company’s production facility in Fort Worth, Texas, where the company recently invested millions of dollars to upgrade its production capabilities for hard seltzer.
The added package format comes ahead of Molson Coors’ plans to expand Topo Chico Hard Seltzer nationally beyond its initial 17 market footprint. The national rollout, however, will focus on the Topo Chico’s four-flavor canned variety pack (Strawberry Guava, Tangy Lemon Lime, Exotic Pineapple, and Tropical Mango), as well as the launch of Topo Chico Margarita Hard Seltzer variety pack in the spring.
“From Molson Coors’ limited launch of Topo Chico Hard Seltzer earlier this year to the announcement of U.S. national expansion and Canadian launch in 2022, to offering the product in cans and now in glass bottles, it has been a great year for Topo Chico Hard Seltzer,” said Dan White, chief of new revenue streams, Coca-Cola North America operating unit. “We are excited about the glass bottle launch as a premium way for people to experience the crisp finish of Topo Chico Hard Seltzer.”
Year-to-date through October 31, the Topo Chico Hard Seltzer variety pack has raked in more than $64.7 million in off-premise dollar sales in multi-outlet and convenience stores tracked by market research firm IRI. The variety pack is Molson Coors’ 12th best-seller in the off-premise channel. Strawberry Guava is the top-selling single-flavor with more than $3.6 million in off-premise sales, followed by Tangly Lemon Lime ($3.4 million).
