Bridgewater Corners, Vt. — Long Trail Brewing Company’s family tree is branching out with the release of Citrus Limbo IPA.
Inspired by its mouthwatering older brother, Citrus Limbo IPA (7.6% ABV, 80 IBU) is a grapefruit- and tangerine-infused India pale ale that adds an extra kick to the passionfruit flavors of Limbo IPA.
“We love citrusy beers and we’ve been talking for some time about how to get more of that grapefruit-y, tangerine-y kind of flavor into a beer,” said Dave Hartmann, brewmaster at Long Trail Brewing Company.
With Citrus Limbo IPA, Hartmann and his team used cold-pressed tangerine and grapefruit peels to create a “super juicy IPA.”
Cold pressing is a method in which fruits are mechanically pressed to extract their essential oils. For this brew, Hartmann and his team used the essential oils from grapefruit and tangerine peels for an added citrus punch.
“The peels of the fruit contain the super juicy flavors and aromas you want,” Hartmann said. “What we’re basically doing is supplementing the hop oils with this really delicious, citrusy, juicy, aromatic essential oil from tangerine and grapefruit.”
This process – which involves soaking the Galaxy and Mosaic dry-hops in the grapefruit and tangerine oils – works well with Limbo IPA’s already tropical flavor profile, according to Hartmann.
“We’ve really kicked it over the top [with grapefruit and tangerine],” He added.
Brewhouse lead, Sam Clemens, agrees.
“It’s just a super juicy IPA experience,” he said.
Citrus Limbo IPA will be available year-round in six-packs of 12oz. bottles and on draught beginning in late-September, so grab a glass and enjoy this super juicy creation.
