Nuno Teles, who led a transformation of Diageo’s U.S. beer business, has been appointed Diageo’s managing director of Great Britain, the company announced Thursday.
Teles, who joined Diageo in March 2018, will begin in his new role on July 1, joining Diageo’s European executive team and reporting to John Kennedy, Diageo’s president of Europe.
Teles’ successor as president of Diageo Beer Company will be announced at a later date.
In an internal memo announcing Teles’ appointment, Diageo credited him with leading a change within its U.S. beer business and culture driven by a strategy of becoming “the most progressive and consumer inspired beer and convenience company.” Over his four years at the helm, Diageo gained market share each year.
Teles also oversaw the acquisition of Lone River Ranch Water maker Far West Spirits. Additionally, the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Baltimore and the build of a second U.S. taproom in Chicago slated to open in 2023.
