U.S. brewers shipped an estimated 16 million barrels of beer in June 2022, a -3.3% decline (or -540,652 barrels of beer) compared to June 2021, the Beer Institute reported, citing domestic tax paid shipments from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).
Shipments have now declined in three consecutive months and five out of the six months in 2022.
Estimated shipments year-to-date through June now stand at 82.9 million barrels, a -3.7% decline, or 3,170,760 fewer barrels than 2021 when brewers shipped 86,070,760 barrels.
The TTB also revised 2021 shipment numbers upward and so the comparisons in 2022 look worse in comparison, with declines increasing in January (-6.5%), February (-6%), April (-6%) and May (-2.4%), and lower than first project increases in March (+1.1%).
July 2022 domestic tax paid estimates are slated for release on August 30.
