Brewbound traveled to Washington D.C. on Tuesday, April 11, to host its first Brew Talks meetup of 2017.
In partnership with Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, the business-networking event, which took place at the Penn Social during the 34th annual Craft Brewers Conference, brought together 300 U.S. brewers, distributors and other industry professionals for discussions on the current state of the beer business.
The evening’s feature panel examined the impact that a rapidly changing and increasingly more competitive craft segment is having on more than 5,300 craft brewing businesses. Panelists included:
Sam Calagione, Founder, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery;
David Walker, Co-Founder, Firestone Walker;
Bryant Goulding, Co-Founder, Rhinegeist Brewing
A second conversation explored the changing dynamics within the three-tier system and examined the growing trend toward direct-to-consumer sales, taproom-focused business models, the emergence of virtual distribution startups, continued consolidation within the middle tier and ongoing efforts to reform laws that protect U.S. beer wholesalers. Panelists included:
Todd Bollig, VP of Sales, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery;
Chris Lennert, COO, Left Hand Brewing;
Brian Murphy, General Manager, Massachusetts Beverage Alliance
