Verona, WI – Red Arrow American Pale Ale became available in stores May 1, and in just a few short weeks is nearly sold out. The high demand shows that the UW-Madison Fermentation Sciences Program (Campus Craft Brewery) has met its educational goals, while its partner, Wisconsin Brewing Company has exceeded its commercial goals.
This program gives students the opportunity to craft a recipe, source ingredients, consult with experts and culminates with the students taking part in full-scale commercial brewing at Wisconsin Brewing. Students from the UW-Madison School of Journalism participated in the creation of the beer’s branding and marketing.
Red Arrow, the name of this year’s beer, honors the 100th anniversary of WWI and the 32nd Division. The 32nd Division, which was comprised of Wisconsin National Guard volunteers, earned the name Red Arrow from their ability to consistently and successfully pierce enemy lines. The Wisconsin National Guard’s Red Arrow has served with distinction for 100 years, and is still active today.
“The demand has been great and we’re hearing from service people from all over the United States. We’ve received requests for Red Arrow Pale for a wedding in Tennessee and inquiries from Texas, Michigan and Massachusetts,” said Carl Nolen, President/CEO at Wisconsin Brewing Company.”
“There’s an important story here about service to a greater cause. This story brings to life the Wisconsin Idea, soldiers who went to a foreign land 100 years ago to serve in WWI and the 32nd Division solders who continue to serve in harm’s way today. Nolen concluded, “Demand has been terrific and we’re selling at double of what we expected. We’re working hard to keep up but we will temporarily run short very soon.”
