Watertown, Mass. – Tree House Brewing Company, a world-renowned Massachusetts craft brewery known for their uncompromising and unrelenting commitment to the craft and their humble beginnings, and Cambrian Innovation®, a commercial provider of distributed wastewater treatment and resource recovery solutions, today announced plans to implement a cutting-edge on-site wastewater treatment system to treat effluent to industrial reuse quality ahead of discharge to the local Charlton municipality.
Founded in 2011 by friends Nate Lanier, Dean Rohan, Jonathan Weisbach, and Damien Goudreau, Tree House has grown into a destination brewery with a cozy, intimate atmosphere and a range of sought-after beers sold on-premise. With a new 70-acre site abutting a nature sanctuary, the brewery will redouble their commitment to proactive environmental stewardship. Cambrian will treat the brewery’s wastewater using its next-generation EcoVolt Reactor®, a bioelectrically enhanced anaerobic wastewater treatment system. Following the successful operation of that system, Tree House will install Cambrian’s EcoVolt MBR®, an aerobic bioreactor that will produce industrial reuse-quality effluent.
“Our business is both utilities- and consumables-heavy”, said Co-Founder and Head Brewer Nate Lanier. “Whatever we can do to reduce the strength of our wastewater, we want to seek out and utilize the industry best technology to do that.”
In addition to treating the brewery’s wastewater, the EcoVolt Reactor system will generate high-quality biogas in the process for onsite use as renewable energy, helping Tree House drive toward their goal to generate 40% of electricity needs with on-site renewable technology within two years and 100% within five.
“We are thrilled to partner with another cutting-edge, Massachusetts-born company,” said Cambrian Innovation founder and CEO Matt Silver. “We have the utmost respect for the Tree House team and their dedication to brewing delicious beer. We couldn’t be more excited help them build a model for sustainable brewery wastewater management by converting wastewater into clean water and clean energy.”
With the implementation of Cambrian’s on-site treatment system, Lanier and his fellow co-founders at Tree House will continue investing in the local Charlton economy, modeling leadership in responsible resource management and conservation for craft breweries and beyond. “At the end of the day,” said Lanier, “it’s the right thing to do.”
