PORTLAND, OR — Square Mile Cider Company is celebrating a gold medal win for Spur & Vine, the cidery’s Citra-hopped offering, at the 2015 Pacific Northwest Cider Awards (PNWCA). This is the sixth notable medal for Spur & Vine in the three years the cider has been on the market.
Spur & Vine won the gold medal in the “Hopped” category at the second-annual PNWCA, which this year had more than 145 cider entries from 38 Northwest cideries in 14 categories. The competition, which included blind cider tastings conducted by a panel of qualified judges, was moderated and managed by the Northwest Cider Association.
“We are beyond excited that Spur & Vine won a gold medal, particularly at the PNWCA,” said Steven Hallstone, brand manager of Square Mile Cider Co. “The Pacific Northwest is one of the fastest-growing cider regions and a hotbed of unique and high-quality ciders, so winning a medal in this competition is a huge honor.”
Square Mile Cider’s two offerings – Spur & Vine and The Original – are available in 12 states in six packs of 12-ounce bottles. The Portland-based cidery is a top 10 selling cider brand nationwide, and the number one Pacific Northwest-produced cider brand in the Northwest.
About Spur & Vine:
Spur & Vine puts a Northwest twist on our classic American hard cider. Starting with the same apples and yeast as The Original, we added a generous amount of Citra hops during cold conditioning. Since no heat is applied to the hops, our cider takes on flavors and aromas of peach, melon, and honeysuckle but none of the traditional hop bitterness. Spur & Vine is best served straight up to allow the complexities of this cider to shine. ABV: 6.7%
