Marietta, GA — Red Hare SPF 50/50 is a refreshing blend of the brewery’s top selling Gangway IPA and its house-brewed sparkling grapefruit soda, creating the world’s first India Pale Radler (IPR). Traditionally, European radlers combine a lighter style beer with lemonade to produce a 2-3% alcohol brew, prefect for the warmer months. Red Hare is the first brewery to take a unique twist on the radler concept by using their higher gravity, multi-hopped India Pale Ale spun with their sweet grapefruit soda. The result is the perfect fusion of citrus zest and tropical, refreshing hops in a 4.2% ABV summer must-have beer.

In the Summer of 2015, the Red Hare team couldn’t get radlers off the brain. Owners Roger Davis and Bobby Thomas ran into the style of beer during various European travels and wondered how they could produce this thirst-quenching, Summer beverage but still make it their own. “We knew we wanted a grapefruit soda rather than a lemonade to highlight the hops we use,” explained Head Brewer Bobby Thomas, “we use a lot of Falconer’s Flight, Chinook and Cascade which all have elements of grapefruit, so it just fit.”
Next they started testing the beer with the obvious first choice being their Long Day Lager, the traditional pairing for this style of beer. While the result was delicious, they wanted to try mixing it with Gangway IPA, just to see. When they took the first sip of the half grapefruit soda, half IPA blend, owner Roger Davis exclaimed, “This is it! If we can make this beer, it will be in every cooler this summer!”
After six months of product sampling and preparation, SPF 50/50 IPR will be available in cans and on draught April 2016.
Launch event at the brewery: SPF 50/50 IPR will be introduced to the general public at its launch party in Marietta, GA on Saturday, April 2nd from 2:00-6:00PM. Event will feature specialty glassware, to go six packs of SPF 50/50 for all guests over 21, live music, food trucks, giveaways and more!
