June Consumer Price Index for Beer At Home +5.4% YoY, +5.3% Away from Home

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for beer remained above 2022 levels in June, increasing +5.4% at home versus June 2022 and +5.3% away from home, before seasonal adjustment, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

The CPI for beer continues to outpace overall inflation, with the CPI for all items rising +3% year-over-year (YoY) and +0.3% month-over-month (MoM). The 12-month +3% increase was once again the smallest 12-month increase since the period ending March 2021, repeating the milestone recorded in May.

Seasonally adjusted, the CPI for all items increased +0.2% YoY and +0.1% MoM.

Month-over-month, beer increased +0.2% at home and +0.4% away from home. Seasonally adjusted, beer at home was flat MoM, after a +0.5% MoM increase in May and +0.2% increase in April. Away from home, beer increased +0.4% MoM when seasonally adjusted, following a +0.7% MoM increase in May and +0.3% increase in April.

The CPI for total alcoholic beverages increased +4.4% YoY and +0.1% MoM, before seasonal adjustment. June increases for the industry were below May increases (+4.8% YoY and +0.5% MoM).

Total bev-alc at home increased +3.2% YoY, but decreased -0.1% MoM. Bev-alc away from home increased +6.6% YoY and +0.5% MoM.

Once again, both wine and spirits recorded smaller increases than beer at home, but larger increases from beer away from home.

Spirits at home increased +1.9% YoY and +0.4% MoM. Seasonally adjusted, spirits at home increased +0.4% MoM after a +0.2% MoM increase in May and -0.1 decrease in April.

Spirits away from home increased +7.9% YoY and +0.8% MoM. Seasonally adjusted, spirits away from home increased +0.8% MoM after a +0.6% MoM increase in May and +2.3% increase in April.

Wine at home increased +1.8% YoY, but declined -0.6% MoM. Seasonally adjusted, wine at home declined -0.6% MoM after a +0.4% MoM increase in May and +0.2% increase in April.

Wine away from home increased +6.7% YoY and +0.6% MoM. Seasonally adjusted, wine away from home increased +0.6% MoM, following a +0.8% MoM increase in May and +0.5% increase in April.
