Durango, Colo. — Half Acre Beer Company and Colorado-based Ska Brewing invite Chicagoans to celebrate the release of their collaborative Old Century Imperial Brown Ale at Charleston Bar on Friday, Jan. 13 at 8 p.m.
Ska Co-Founder Dave Thibodeau met with the crew at Half Acre in Chicago this fall to produce the duo’s first collaboration brew together. Old Century Imperial Brown is of special significance to both brands because it was brewed using Ska’s original Century brewing system. Half Acre acquired the system from Ska back in 2008, as Ska was outgrowing the system.
“Brewing Old Century with our friends at Half Acre on the same equipment that our first-ever Ska batches were brewed on was rad, it brought back so many memories,” said Thibodeau. “We have come a long way since we used the Old Century system in the mid-90s. It’s been an incredible ride for Ska and for the craft beer industry as a whole.”
Now over 21-years-old, Ska Brewing produces over a dozen award-winning beers, establishing their reputation as a leader of the Colorado craft beer boom and a pioneer of the canned craft beer movement.
“We feel fortunate to have met everyone at Ska. Purchasing their brewhouse on May 6th, 2008 was a pivotal moment for Half Acre. That brewhouse was the heart of our business for the next seven years. Even now, it serves as the most nimble and creative tool we have,” said Gabriel Magliaro, president of Half Acre. “For us, Ska is a proud member of the original guard that made beer look like the right life for us. Good people living in a great environment making beer to secure a desired lifestyle. That’s pretty magical. To have them out to make beer on ‘The Old Century’ is an honor.”
Old Century, named after the brewhouse itself, is a blend of 2row, Munich, and Victory with healthy doses of caramel, chocolate and wheat that round out this pub pack ale into the modern sipper.
Old Century Imperial Brown Ale will be distributed for a limited time, only in Chicago.
