FERNDALE, Mich. — Ferndale’s Axle Brewing Co. is tapping their first barrel-aged beer this week. Wolf Tone, an 11.5% ABV Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels is the first release from the brewery’s Livernois Barrel Project which will release four new beers in 2018. The brewery team, lead by head brewer Adam Beretta, is thrilled to finally tap and bottle the finished product.
Wolf Tone, a reference to the sound produced when a note matches the natural resonating frequency of the body of a wood instrument is rich and full bodied with complex malt flavors of chocolate, caramel and coffee with a hint of bourbon, oak and vanilla.
“Livernois Barrel Project represents an exciting addition to the Axle Brewing family. Barrel-aged beers are challenging and require considerable patience and skill, but done well, are worth every effort. While Wolf Tone spent many months in oak, it is truly the result of many years of Brewer Adam Beratta honing his craft. We are so proud to finally share it,” said owner DanRiley.
Wolf Tone Imperial Stout will be available on tap at Axle’s taproom, Livernois Tap (567 Liverno is in Ferndale) and a handful of area’s finest craft beer joints starting this weekend. Additionally,Axle will also have a limited release of 500ML bottles available exclusively in the Ferndale taproom. The bottle release and tapping is scheduled for this Saturday, February 10th at 3pm and will be limited to 1 case per customer.
