Reyes Beer Division’s Gold Coast Beverages has struck a deal to acquire “certain brand distribution rights” from Brown Distributing in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to an internal email seen by Brewbound.
The deal is expected to add 1.1 million cases to Gold Coast’s business. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, but it is scheduled to close on October 15.
Brand rights being sold to Gold Coast include Boston Beer Company’s Dogfish Head, Constellation Brands’ Funky Buddha and CANarchy’s Cigar City. The move will consolidate Reyes’ ownership of other brands from Boston Beer (Samuel Adams, Angry Orchard, Twisted Tea and Truly Hard Seltzer) and Constellation (Corona and Pacifico).
The transfer of additional craft brand rights, all south of Palm Beach, is pending supplier consent.
Brown Distributing sells 11 million cases annually across its operations in Florida and Virginia. Brown’s Florida territory stretches from Indian River County at the center of the state’s eastern coast down to Monroe County, which includes the Florida Keys. The company’s craft-centric portfolio also includes offerings from national and regional brands such as Avery, Oskar Blues, Rogue, Narragansett, Founders and Victory, as well as local brands such as Barrel of Monks, Orchid Island, Tequesta Brewing, Green Bench, and Saltwater. The company also distributes import brands from Duvel Moortgat.
Reyes — which acquired Gold Coast in 2015 — sells more than 26 million cases to more than 11,400 retailers in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, according to its website.
Gold Coast operates three warehouses in Doral, Pompano and Rockland Key, Florida. Its portfolio includes offerings from national suppliers such as Constellation Brands, Heineken, Molson Coors, Boston Beer Company, Yuengling and Diageo.
Sources told Brewbound that Brown’s portfolio of Anheuser-Busch offerings could also be on the move to another distributor. However, Brewbound was unable to confirm a sale as of press time.
Last week, Reyes subsidiary Harbor Distributing struck a deal to acquire 6.8 million cases and 6,000 accounts from Southern California-based Classic Beverages. Brands involved include Molson Coors, White Claw and Mike’s maker Mark Anthony Brands, Boston Beer Company, Heineken USA, Lagunitas, Firestone Walker, Pabst and Sierra Nevada. In a twist, Classic acquired the brand rights of Coronado Brewing Company, Golden State Cider, Shiner maker Gambrinus and Rogue Brewing from Reyes’ Harbor and Crest Beverage subsidiaries.
