Following the announcement yesterday that Danish brewer Mikkeller has shuttered its brewery at the New York Mets’ home Citi Field, Fountain Beverage and EBBS Brewing Company will take over the 10,000 sq. ft. space.
Although the name of the space will change, the operators won’t. Bruce Wilpon, who is a partner in his family’s real estate firm, Sterling Equities, which also owned a majority stake in the Mets until agreeing to sell the baseball club to billionaire Steve Cohen last month, and was a partner in Mikkeller NYC, is the co-founded EBBS and Fountain, which produces hard seltzer and CBD-infused sparkling water, with Tomas Larsson, who served as CMO of Mikkeller NYC for a year, earlier in 2020.
Wilpon was responsible for the operations of Mikkeller NYC.
The brewery will be Fountain’s first production space.
Mikkeller NYC’s head brewer Richie Saunders will stay on at the location, which has more than a decade left on its long-term lease at Citi Field. The 10,000 sq. ft. space includes a 20-barrel brewhouse.
Fountain’s hard seltzers check in at 100 calories and 5% ABV. They come in flavors of lime, pineapple, blueberry, tart cherry, watermelon, mango and passion fruit.
The company’sCBD-infused sparkling waters contain 20 milligrams of New York-grown CBD. They come in three flavors: cucumber, grapefruit and lime.
The Fountain brand is distributed in the New York City metro area, New York’s Capital Region surrounding Albany through Saratoga Eagle Sales & Serve, and statewide in Arkansas through Moon Distributors. Fountain also sells directly to consumers in the United Kingdom.
EBBS’ minimalist approach to brewing includes IPAs, lagers, a stout and a gose, each named by style and batch number.
