Oskar Blues Boulder Taproom Closes
The Oskar Blues taproom in Boulder, Colorado, has shuttered, according to the Daily Camera.
The closure follows last month’s announcement of the impending sale of the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective, Oskar Blues’ parent company, to energy drink giant Monster Beverage.
The Boulder taproom was included in the sale to Monster, along with the brewery’s Lyons, Colorado-based location, as both locations’ liquor licenses were connected to Oskar Blues’ Longmont manufacturing facility, according to Denver alt-weekly newspaper WestWord.
Oskar Blues opened the Boulder taproom in 2017 after the former occupant, a World of Beers location, closed, according to Eater Denver. In addition to Oskar Blues offerings, the taproom also served beers from fellow CANarchy brands such as Cigar City and Perrin.
All social media pages for the Boulder taproom have been disabled. Meanwhile, the Oskar Blues website lists the brewery’s outposts in Austin, Texas; Brevard, North Carolina; and Longmont, Colorado.
The Oskar Blues Fooderies family, a collection of Oskar Blues-branded restaurants in Colorado, was not included in the Monster deal.
A CANarchy spokesperson declined to comment on the closure.
Magnolia Brewing’s Dogpatch Location to Shutter
Magnolia Brewing’s brewery in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco will close on February 20, the company announced on Instagram.
“COVID-19 has been a huge challenge for every hospitality business, including ours,” Magnolia wrote. “When it came time to renew our lease in the Dogpatch, we made the tough decision to refocus our attention solely on Magnolia’s original home in the Haight, which is full of tradition, great beer, and good people.”
The Dogpatch location opened in 2013 with a 30-barrel brewhouse and expanded to include a beer garden, according to the company’s website. In July 2019, the brewery continued to add to the Dogpatch location with Magnolia Hall, a 6,500 sq. ft. private events space.
Dave McLean founded Magnolia in 1997. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2015 following the delayed opening of its Dogpatch location. In 2017, a group led by New Belgium Brewing acquired Magnolia and the company is now owned by New Belgium’s parent company, Kirin-owned Lion Little World Beverages.
Little Creatures, a Lion-owned Australian craft brewery, opened a taproom in July 2019 in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood, which abuts the Dogpatch. That taproom has since been rebranded as a New Belgium location.
New Hampshire’s Bad Lab Beer Co. Has Closed
Somersworth, New Hampshire-based Bad Lab Beer Co. has shut down.
“It is with great emotion that we announce the closure of Bad Lab Beer Co.,” the brewery wrote on Facebook Monday. “As a family we would like to thank all of our friends and the community around us that supported us over the past year. Without you we would not have been able to share our love for what we do. We wish we could celebrate the amazing place Bad Lab Beer Co. has become with you one last time.”
The brewery opened in 2016 and added a brewpub in 2017, according to an interview with then-head brewer Chuck Morrell in New Hampshire Magazine. In 2020, Bad Lab produced 450 barrels of beer, according to the Brewers Association.
