PORTLAND, MAINE – Shipyard Brewing Company announces the release of its first lager, Imperial Pilsner. Available this spring in bottles and on tap, this pilsner is a unique blend of German pilsner and imperial IPA. This brew is bright gold and full-bodied with a hint of sweetness up-front and a round, dry finish. A pure American creation that balances malt and a big hop profile.
Imperial Pilsner was developed by Shipyard’s product development brewer, Pete Heggeman.
Shipyard’s vice president of sales and marketing, Bruce Forsley said “Pete has always had an affinity for German beers and he welcomed the challenge of producing Shipyard’s first lager. He selected the yeast strain W 34/70 from the famed Weihenstephan Institute in Germany for its very dry, clean character. The hop profile is a blend of Czech Saaz and German Hallertau to add a spice hop flavor to the finish. Primary fermentation requires 10 days at which point the beer is then lagered for 28 more days. To add an American dimension to the beer Pete brought the ABV to 8.6%. A true Imperial Pilsner!”
Production is limited to 1,200 cases of 22oz. bottles and a small amount of draft. This newest addition to the Signature Series is only available in the spring while supplies last.
