GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Founders Brewing Co. announced today that they will release Backwoods Bastard this month as the fifth installment of the Barrel-Aged Series. A classic Scotch ale aged in bourbon barrels, Backwoods Bastard debuted in 2005 when Founders first started experimenting with aging beer in barrels. Starting in 2007, Backwoods Bastard was also the first beer Founders matured in the former gypsum mine caves that now house more than 7,000 barrels of this experimental range.
A perennial favorite, Backwoods Bastard has won the highest praise from the Founders community and beer reviewers. Consistently ranked among the top-rated releases – with a perfect score of 100 on RateBeer – Backwoods Bastard receives critical praise for its profound balance of aromatics, earthiness and spice.
“Born when we decided to put some of our Scotch ale, Dirty Bastard, in bourbon barrels over a decade ago, Backwoods Bastard is one of our longtime favorites,” said Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki. “It may not get the hype as some of our other barrel-aged beers, but it is definitely deserving – rich, sweet and perfect for sipping.”
Backwoods Bastard is the fifth annual release in the Founders 2017 Barrel-Aged Series, preceded by Frootwood, KBS, Doom and DKML. Founders will announce the final release in the Barrel-Aged Series later this year. Beginning October 9, 2017, Backwoods Bastard will be available in Founders’ 46-state distribution area and will be in the taproom beginning October 11, 2017. Backwoods Bastard retails for $14.99/4-pack 12oz bottles and $11.99/750mL bottle. For imagery and samples, please reach out to Jena Dean, jena@gregorywhitepr.com.
