MILTON, Del. — It’s time to ‘fess up’ and share the news about an exciting off-centered exploration in hops – Dogfish Head Craft Brewery has just released its newest IPA, Liquid Truth Serum, to retailers, restaurants and refrigerator shelves.
The brewery that introduced continual hopping to the world with beers like 60 Minute, 90 Minute and 120 Minute IPA, is adding a brand new, bona fide hop-experimental concoction to their family of off-centered India Pale Ales.
Truth be told, Dogfish has been experimenting with tradition-bucking hop dosing techniques for years and now they’ve liberated a new fact by methodically adding every single hop addition to this IPA after the boil is complete. The unique process involves pelletized, powdered, leaf and liquefied hops that are all added post boil creating an intensely aromatic ale with soft, citrusy fruit hop notes. Some dosing happens on the hot side during whirlpool and some on the cold side as dry-hopping post-fermentation.
MYTH: Beers can only pick up IBUs by adding hops during the boil.
TRUTH: Here is a 100% post-boil hop oriented IPA that picks up over 60 IBUs in process. Our innovative process makes Liquid Truth Serum super-aromatic and juicy-hoppy without being deceptively bitter, this 6.8 % ABV medium body ale is hazy and golden-orange in color with a slightly citrus zest finish.
To kick off the Dogfish Head Art Series, the brewery once again teamed up with longtime friend and highly acclaimed designer, Marq Spusta, a California-based artist known for his distinct illustrative style, to create the Liquid Truth Serum label and artwork. The hop-forward India Pale Ale is part of the annual Art Series beer line up where the brewery collaborates with artists to create custom pieces of artwork for their seasonal ales.
The label features Spusta’s version of a traveling medicine show unveiling the all-seeing “eye of truth” exposing the myth that all hops need to be added in the boil.
Celebrating the ninth year of the Art Series, Dogfish Head has been sharing the stories behind their ales through creative illustrations with designers like Ali Selders, Dave Plunkert, Tara Mcpherson, Jim Mazza, Jermaine Rogers, Rich Kelly, Drew Millward, Michael Hacker and Spusta, who designed past Dogfish labels like Tweason’ale and Hellhound. Funky, inventive labels have become a staple in the craft beer scene, defining brands and bringing life to beers through imaginative visuals.
“We’re excited to once again team up with the supremely talented Marq Spusta for the Liquid Truth Serum artwork for our 2017-2018 Art Series, as well as the other beers in the series,” says Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. “In much the same way Dogfish mixes and matches ingredients to brew truly unique beers, we also enjoy mixing it up by collaborating with visionary, avant-garde artists who work with us to bring life to our beer labels through their personal interpretation and expressions of our beers.”
