Overview

Rip Current Brewing is the result of two friends who were avid homebrewers and wanted to reach a broader audience then the guests at our houses. Paul Sangster and Guy Shobe came up with the idea of opening a brewery in August of 2011 and have been focused on opening a brewery producing high quality, flavorful ales and lagers which capture our passion for craft beer.

We opened in 2012 with a goal of bringing flavorful ales, lagers, barrel-aged beers and sours to the market. Its been an honor to serve our beers to a large audience of great craft beer locations and have tasting rooms in San Marcos (north county of SD) and North Park! Normally we are pouring 20+ brews spanning award-winning styles from light colored lagers (e.g. Helles, Pilsner) to expressive hoppy beer and big bold dark ales. We frequently have bourbon barrel-aged beers available that have been in the barrel 18+ months and now have a barrel-aged, multi-culture sour program.

Over the years, we have won awards at local and major competitions for many of our beer styles . Along the way we won the top "very small" brewery in the country at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF), 5 GABF medals and counting plus many other award. We hope you will stop by our two locations and decide for yourself.
