KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KC Bier Co., Kansas City’s largest locally-owned brewery, announces the inaugural bottled release of its fall seasonal, Festbier, in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles on Monday, Aug. 20. A three-time medalist at the Great International Beer Competition — including silver medals in 2017 and 2016 — Festbier is a Vienna-style lager that finishes at 5.5% ABV and 25 IBU.
Steve Holle, KC Bier Co. founder and managing owner, describes Festbier as a crisp, clean, malty lager brewed with Old-World, traditional brewing techniques and 100 percent imported German malt and hops.
“Imported Vienna and Pilsner malt give Festbier biscuit, caramel and honey malt flavors, while Perle and Hallertau Mittelfrüh hops provide moderate bitterness to balance the malt,” Holle said. “We’re proud to brew our Festbier using time-honored methods including decoction mashing (boiling a portion of the mash), two-vessel fermentation, long, cold lagering and natural carbonation. Festbier also is fermented with yeast from a Bavarian monastery brewery.”
Festbier also is the official bier of KC Oktoberfest, Kansas City’s largest traditional Munich-style Oktoberfest, organized by the brewery annually since 2014. This year’s event takes place Oct. 5-6 at Crown Center, the commercial complex that has been a staple of downtown Kansas City for more than 45 years. Headlining the festival are Die Wilderer and Die Schornsteinfeger, two of Bavaria’s top festival bands that have played hundreds of shows on the German and European Oktoberfest festival circuit.
The brewery will celebrate Festbier’s release at a launch party in its Bierhalle and Biergarten on Tuesday, Aug. 21, featuring specials on Festbier pours, brats, pretzels, Oktoberfest ticket giveaways and other activities. Festbier will be available in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draught from August through November throughout the brewery’s distribution territory.
