KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Bier Co. announces the addition of Pils to its existing year-round bottle offerings that include Helles, Dunkel, and Hefeweizen. The bier releases today in 6-packs of 12 oz. bottles and on draught across the brewery’s distribution territory.
Kansas City’s largest locally-owned brewery describes Pils as an authentic German-style Pilsner possessing the true noble hop character that made Pilsner the most popular beer style worldwide. The 2nd Place winner in the Continental Pilsner Category in the 2014 Great International Beer, Cider & Mead Competition, KC Bier Co.’s Pils is brewed with 100 percent imported German malt and hops.
Steve Holle, KC Bier Co. founder and managing owner, said the brewery always has been committed to producing a true German character in its biers, and looks forward to reintroducing this authentic, classic style of bier to consumers.
“Pils has an assertive but delicate bitterness and a crisp, dry finish that can only be achieved with using all-imported ingredients,” Holle said. “Many domestic lagers call themselves a pilsner, but they forgot the hops. We didn’t.”
Following suit with the brewery’s existing labels, Pils’ label artwork depicts a cityscape that highlights the historical and cultural heritage of Kansas City.
“For Pils, we chose the southward view of downtown, the Broadway Bridge and the Missouri River to highlight the importance of the river,” Holle said. “The bridge suggests the importance of bridging the river by the railroad that brought cattle, grain and coal from western states. This commerce laid the foundation for Kansas City’s rapid growth in the late 19th Century.”
The Pils label also sports the new Certified Independent Craft seal, a logo introduced by the Brewers Association trade group in 2017 to identify products as brewed and packaged by independently-owned craft brewers.
