Gunwhale Ales Hires New Head Brewer

Orange County, CA — Gunwhale Ales, a local small batch producer of craft beer, wraps the first week of production under Kevin Hammons. Hammons, an experienced craft brewer and brewery manager, was recently hired to lead brewing operations, to direct the barrel program, implement quality control, as well as other related areas.

Hammons, who grew up in nearby Orange, CA brings over 8 years of experience in the beer industry, and his humble beginnings as a home brewer and quick rise to brewer and Brewing Manager at The Bruery prove his talent. His management experience over brewing and cellar departments led to his being appointed Director of Brewing at Evans Brewing. Gunwhale sees his production experience as very valuable in its plan for growth in the region and his background in barrel aging as key to the release of specialty wild ales.

Co-Founder Bobby Fitzgerald explains, “Kevin is coming aboard during a critical time for us, and will help to take the traction and excitement about our unique beer brand and help us to expand it much further into packaging and distribution. Besides our core beers, Kevin will help to finalize some of our first packaged releases of canned beer and the release of specialty wild beers that have been aging since we opened. We are extremely happy about finding a brewer with local ties, as we feel our brand and approach to beer making focuses on the local region, and Kevin understands deeply our mission and will be the future of these efforts.”

Hammons will first take the helm in producing core offerings like Bait Ball IPA, Pau Brah! IPA, MajordomoCitrus Farmhouse Ale, and Hopped for Mama Farmhouse IPA. He will also focus efforts on various Saison and farmhouse styles for which Gunwhale is known, and the release of a new American Brown Ale and aStout, which we expect to announce in the coming weeks.

ABOUT GUNWHALE

Gunwhale Ales strike a balance between the raw, wild spirit of farmhouse brewing, and the pioneering hop forward styles of California. We have an obsession with yeast driven Saisons, aromatic, hoppy pale beers, and other rustic, wild and sour ales. This gives our beers uncommon qualities that are both surprisingly delicate and nuanced, yet refined and robust in their simplicity. From bright, billowy summer ales to rustic, fortifying stormers that stand up to the rougher seas, Gunwhale makes beers that reflect the culinary and cultural heritage of the West Coast. For updates about events and beer releases, visit gunwhaleales.com or follow @gunwhaleales onFacebook, Instagram and Twitter.
