Bay City Brewing Uses Custom Artwork for Bottle Release

SAN DIEGO — On November 9, craft beer lovers will rejoice as Bay City Brewing Co. releases beer in bottles for the first time. The chosen beer comes from the brewery’s new Ctrl+Shift+Del series — a series of barrel-aged beers that age in former wine barrels. The series will debut its first beer, Bear Coltridge, in a limited supply of 750-milliliter bottles.

According to Bay City Brewing Co., Bear Coltridge is an amber beer that was aged on passionfruit in former wine oak barrels for eight months. The beer uses eight strains of Brettanomyces to produce a fruity flavor that compliments the tart fruitiness of the passionfruit and nicely contrast the mild malt sweetness of the base beer. The following beers in the Ctrl+Shift+Del series will age in a variety of barrels for several months and release on a barrel-by-barrel basis.

“With our Ctrl+Shift+Del series, we can experiment with beer varietals, barrels, fruits and microorganisms to release batches of beer that allow us to  showcase our creativity. ” said Bay City Brewing Co. Head Brewer Chris West. “Bear Coltridge has a funky flavor, making it the perfect beer to kick off bottling at Bay City Brewing Co.”

As if the barrel-aged beers needed more character, Bay City Brewing Co. teamed up with local artist Richard Paul Kunz to create custom, hand-painted labels for each beer. Kunz initially showcased his artistic talents at the brewery’s Community Art Show where he featured a wide array of artwork. Shortly thereafter, the brewery asked him to design special labels to use for the barrel-aged brews.

The Ctrl+Shift+Del series launch party begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, featuring live music and tasty bites to celebrate this milestone for Bay City Brewing Co. One hundred bottles of Bear Coltridge will be available for participants to purchase during the celebration — limit two bottles per person. No tickets are required for the San Diego Beer Week event — just a love for experimental craft brews in creative bottles.
