Overview: Griesedieck Brothers Brewery is a small, craft brewery located in the city of St. Louis, MO. Our initial brewing operations are on a 15 bbl brewhouse. Pronounced “GREE-zuh-deck”, the family has brewing roots tracing back to 1711 in Stromberg, Westphalia. In 1870, our forefather Anton August Griesedieck immigrated to St. Louis, who opened a malt house in South St. Louis City. Eight years later he and his sons opened a brewery in St. Louis, Over the years, the Griesedieck family owned multiple breweries – most notably Griesedieck Brothers, Griesedieck Western and Falstaff – in St. Louis. Between Griesedieck Brothers, Falstaff, and Griesedieck Western (Stag), the Griesedieck family commanded 85% of the St. Louis market. The 1950s saw a whirlwind change in many local markets – including St. Louis – and local breweries consolidated. Henry A. Griesedieck, was the last president of the original Griesedieck Brothers Brewery, before merging with Falstaff in 1957, which ultimately sold off in the 1970s. The old Griesedieck Western Brew-ery – by then owned by Carling – still brewed Stag in Belleville until 1988. The Griesedieck Brothers brand was revived in 2002 by owner and eighth generation brewer, Raymond A. Griesedieck.
