John Cochran, who last month sold Terrapin Beer Company to MillerCoors, is diving headfirst back into the beer business with a new craft brewery venture in Asheville, North Carolina. Using proceeds from the sale of Terrapin, Cochran said he has purchased the assets of Altamont Brewing and will rebrand the company as UpCountry Brewing.
First Beverage Financial, the investment banking arm of First Beverage Group, announced that it acted as the financial advisor to Terrapin Beer Company in its sale of a majority interest to Tenth and Blake Beer Company, the craft and import division of MillerCoors. Tenth and Blake previously purchased a minority interest in Terrapin in 2012. Terms of the transaction, which is expected to close in August, 2016, were not disclosed.

MillerCoors today announced that Tenth and Blake Beer Company, its craft beer and import division, has reached an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Terrapin Beer Company. The purchase builds on a pre-existing relationship between the two companies: MillerCoors, via Tenth and Blake, had previously acquired a minority (less than 25 percent) stake in the Athens, GA-based craft brewery in early 2012.
