Taylor Yates joined Nantahala Brewing Company as lead brewer. Yates will take over day-to-day production brewing and cellar oversight from Nantahala’s head brewer, Tom Walsh, who will retire this Fall.
Marking a major milestone in the expansion of the brewery’s leadership team, on Monday, February 4th, Nantahala Brewing Company welcomed John Stuart as Brewmaster and Head of Brewing Operations.

This series is especially important to the brewery as each beer pays homage to the important and influential friends the staff at Nantahala has made over the last 6 years. On Tuesday, December 20th, Nantahala Brewing Company re-released Judaculla Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout. Brewed once-a-year, this luscious 10% ABV whiskey barrel-aged stout arrived at the brewery to much fan fare.
On Friday, December 9th, Nantahala Brewing Company will release 22 ounce bottles of Sticky Dog Stout, a 6% ABV export stout. The third beer in the brewery’s Myths & Legends Series, Sticky Dog Stout is named for the fabled monster who was said to reside in the mountains of the Great Smoky Mountains.
On Black Friday, Nantahala Brewing Company will release 22 ounce bottles of its next specialty beer, Midnight Topher, a stout infused with locally produced Tribal Grounds Coffee Roasters espresso beans. Created by Head Brewer Chris White, this espresso-style stout was inspired by White’s past work and his present career
On Friday, November 11th, Nantahala Brewing Company will release Pattons Run Porter in bottles for the first time. An easy-drinking, 4.5% ABV brown porter, Pattons Run has been a fall draft staple in the brewery’s Bryson City taproom for years.
Following a concert held in their Bryson City taproom on Saturday, August 21st, Nantahala Brewing Company brewed a beer with friend, and rising country music star, Jamie Kent.
Nantahala Brewing Company is expanding their footprint to include another business in Bryson City. The new location will complement the current brewery rather than replace it, with the original building remaining a production facility and taproom and the new space acting as a full-fledged craft beer restaurant.
Beginning in mid-August, Nantahala Brewing Company will extend distribution of their award-winning beers to Nashville, Tennessee. Working with partners Lipman Brothers Distributing, Nantahala Brewing will host a series of tap takeovers and tastings across the city beginning Wednesday, August 17th.
