CHAMBLY, Quebec — Éphémère Strawberry & Rhubarb, a new Belgian-style, fruit-flavored wheat ale combining two favorite summer flavors, is now available as a limited seasonal release from Unibroue. To help promote this refreshing, playful addition to Unibroue’s Éphémère series, a new augmented reality game centered around Éphémère Strawberry & Rhubarb is available in the Unibroue Passport App for smartphones and tablets.
In “Catch a Fairy,” gamers must catch all Éphémère fairies to perfectly balance the beer’s five ingredients as they recreate it, ensuring perfect levels of strawberry, rhubarb, wheat, barley and yeast. Upon successfully balancing the beer, winners unlock another opportunity to win an all-expenses paid trip to the brewery in Quebec, Canada. Gamers also gain access to a digital coupon via Checkout 51 for purchases of Éphémère Strawberry & Rhubarb, as well as original food and cocktail recipes.
“The augmented reality game is a fun and original way for Unibroue and craft beer fans to discover our new Strawberry & Rhubarb summer seasonal while giving their gamer skills a little performance test,” says Jean-Yves Lacombe, Trade Marketing Manager for Unibroue.
A partnership with Checkout 51 provides a $2.50 cash back offer for retail purchases of Éphémère Strawberry & Rhubarb and a $4.50 cash back offer at restaurants and bars purchases through July 18. How it works: Gamers receive a digital coupon within the Passport App for the beer. They must then create an account at Checkout 51, upload a photograph of the purchase receipt of the beer and apply the digital coupon within the account. The cash back is then remitted to the user by check or direct deposit from Checkout 51.
At 5.5 percent ABV, Éphémère Strawberry & Rhubarb features pleasant strawberry and rhubarb flavors reminiscent of the pie that unites these two fruits. It is available in the U.S. on draft, in six-packs of 12-oz bottles and as part of a seasonal variety six-pack.
The Unibroue Passport App launched March 8 and is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play. In-app notifications provide gamers with details about future themed games featuring new Unibroue beers as well as additional digital coupons, prize opportunities, exclusive tips from Unibroue Brewmaster Jerry Vietz, and unique music and video content. The app also has a Unibroue Finder tool to help users easily locate their favorite Unibroue beers anywhere they are sold. Two more virtual reality games highlighting Unibroue beers are planned for 2018, including one that will correspond with new release Cherry Black Forest Cake Ale.
Éphémère Strawberry & Rhubarb is available as a limited release while quantities last, and the Checkout 51 promotion runs through July 18.
