CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Birdsong Brewing distribution is taking flight again, this time landing on the South Carolina coast.
Charlotte’s third oldest brewery recently signed a deal with Bear Island Distributors of Hilton Head, SC, to distribute Birdsong’s culinary-inspired, super-fresh, unfiltered, American-style ale in Florence, Myrtle Beach and Charleston, among other cities and counties.
“Charleston and the South Carolina coast has been on our radar for a while, and we’ve had people asking for our beer in those areas for some time,” says Chris Goulet, principal owner of Birdsong Brewing.
Birdsong beer will be available on tap and in cans at select locations starting the week of Nov. 12.
The brewery is planning a market launch party at 5-9 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14 at The Bower at Edmund’s Oast, 1081 Morrison Drive, Charleston, SC. Birdsong founders Chris and Tara Goulet will be on hand and Birdsong’s year-round beers (Jalapeno Pale Ale, Lazy Bird Brown Ale, Higher Ground IPA, Paradise City Session IPA and Rewind Lager) will be on tap.
This growth is the latest since Birdsong began distributing to the South Carolina upstate in February of this year.
“Our plan for distribution has always been to slowly, organically cover the Carolinas, and this puts us closer to that goal,” Chris Goulet says. “When we moved into our current brewery space in Charlotte, we built in capacity to brew more beer. We’ll keep our operations headquartered in Charlotte and use partners to help our beer take flight across the Carolinas.”
Goulet says the move was in part driven by demand. Fans are not quiet about how much they want Birdsong’s beers in their neighborhood. Birdsong has a long history of being responsive with customers and the community. The brewery supported 165 non-profit organizations in 2017, which included six formal partnerships.
“It’s part of our ethos, we want to be a great brewer, great employer and contributing member of the community,” Chris Goulet says.
About Birdsong Brewing Company
Founded in 2011 from humble roots, Birdsong Brewing Co. has grown to become the Charlotte destination for culinary-inspired, super-fresh, unfiltered, American-style ale. Using locally-sourced ingredients and fully embracing musical (and often whimsical) inspiration, Birdsong celebrates creativity with a new, weekly small batch release in the taproom every “Thursty Thursday.” Beloved by locals and sought-after by fans across the Carolinas, the 30-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the Belmont neighborhood embodies the #CanDoWillDo philosophy behind what Birdsong brews, thinks and believes. Charlotte’s third oldest brewery is the first in the Queen City to embrace solar power, installing a 75 kilowatt array for the roof of the brewery in 2018.
