CLEARWATER, Fla. — Big Storm Brewing Co. and Fat Point Brewing are releasing specialty Ales for ALS brews. Big Storm is releasing an American Red Ale at both its Clearwater and Odessa taprooms and an India Pale Ale at its Cape Coral taproom, while Fat Point is releasing a Belgian Pale Ale at its Punta Gorda taproom.
A dollar from each Ales for ALS pint sold in the taprooms from now until the end of September will go to ALS oramyotrophic lateral sclerosis research. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
“With each passing year they’re gaining a better understanding regarding the physiology of ALS and eventually they will find a cure,” said Big Storm co-owner L.J. Govoni. “And to be invited to participate in a program like Ales for ALS that helps play a role in funding this critical research is both an honor and extremely rewarding for our entire team.”
Ales for ALS is a national program that invites select breweries from around the world to brew a specialty beer to benefit ALS research. Once a craft brewery is invited and accepted into the program, they receive a unique hop blend, created and donated annually by Loftus Ranches and YCH Hops that each brewer uses to make their specialty beer.
Since 2013, Ales for ALS has raised more than $1,750,000 for research.
Big Storm’s American Red Ale, which again is available at its Clearwater and Odessa taprooms, boasts a citrus hop flavor and aroma with an ABV of 5.5%. It’s light body and caramel malts pair with the hop character for a complex yet sooth drinking experience.
Big Storm’s other Ales for ALS is available at its Cape Coral taproom. The IPA is a medium-bodied golden ale brewed with Ales for ALS’ signature blend of hops containing ekuanot, simcoe, loral, and 4 proprietary experimental hops. The smooth balanced malt character is the perfect back-drop to the bold blend of citrus, floral, berry, and tropical fruit. The IPA has a 7.3% ABV.
Fat Point’s Belgian Pale Ale, which is being sold under the name Ales for ALS, is a smooth beer with subtle tropical flavors and a great citrus aroma. It has a 4.9% ABV.
“The beer is very easy to drink and is perfect for Florida’s heat,” noted Fat Point Head Brewer Jessy Abbate.
Big Storm’s taprooms are located at 839 Miramar St. in Cape Coral, 12707 49th St. in Clearwater and 2330 Success Dr. in Odessa.
Fat Point’s taproom is located at 611 Charlotte St. in Punta Gorda.
