What You'll Do

The ideal candidate has a passion for craft beer, with a desire to learn and grow along with the company’s expansion, is a must. Will have a natural leadership ability and be able to work well under pressure all while keeping a positive demeanor and staying on task. Builds strong team cohesion by being engaged, approachable, and highly communicative. Enables and empowers each individual team member through the ability to listen, learn, and coach. Works closely with the Packaging manager on all things upstream and downstream of packaging.


  • Supervise packaging team during production runs
  • Communicates with brewers about any issues
  • Troubleshoot issues with packaging machinery 
  • Complete packaging production in Netsuite 
  • Track daily production and log QA information in excel sheet
  • Monthly inventory adjustments for packaging materials and consumables (wrap, bands, pallets)
  • Assist with packaging schedule 
  • Assign tasks from the schedule to the team, determine start times to complete all tasks. 
  • Communicate with other departments when it comes to schedule adjustments
  • Notify the manager of any issues with packaging or if an issue with a product arises in a timely manner.

Canning 

  • Set up can filler for production
  • CIP/Sanitize can filler according to SOP
  • Check BBT CO2/Dissolved oxygen using C-Box prior to packaging beer
  • Operate can filler
  • Check CO2/Dissolved oxygen on finished product using C-box.
  • Perform seam checks using seam saw and camera
  • Sample cans for taste and clarity
  • Maintain proper fill levels, adjust filler height if needed
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems as they arise on canning line.
  • Ensure legible date codes on cans and cartons
  • Fulfill case quantity for orders according to schedule
  • Assist packaging team with packing of finished product at the end of the line.
  • Pack out finished product from can line to cold box
  • Communicate with warehouse team when it comes to storage of product

Cleaning/Change overs

  • Complete format change overs on can filler and other packaging machines
  • Prepare can line for upcoming production
  • Prep cans, cartons, trays, paktechs, pallets and any other supplies to complete canning
  • Maintain a clean and organized work space 
  • Safely use caustic/acids to clean external surfaces of packaging equipment during end of day cleanup
  • Look for ways to improve storage and cleaning projects
  • Deep clean machines when schedule allows
  • Maintain packaging equipment, keep up with greasing and other PM work 
  • Assist with overhaul and maintenance of machines, soak up information from tech visits

Kegging

  • Set up keg filler for production
  • CIP/Sanitize keg filler according to SOP
  • Check CO2/Dissolved oxygen on BBT with C-box before packaging
  • Operate keg filler/washer
  • Monitor chemical solution in machine to ensure proper cleaning of kegs
  • Monitor cleaning and filling cycles of kegs, ensure proper steam sterilization
  • Label kegs with collars and sanitize the necks with iso before capping
  • Safely palletize full kegs with vacuum lift and label pallets
  • Move full kegs to cold box
  • Keep keg area clean and organized
  • Organize dirty kegs
  • Removal of broken pallets
  • Clean area under rollers and machine
  • Blow down keg boiler at end of day
  • Manually fill kegs when not using keg filler with a coupler manifold. 

Operate forklift and scissor lift

  • Maintain a clean brewery
  • Help out in areas outside of packaging (drains, floors, kitchenette, dumpster area, warehouse, chemical area, parts area)



Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience with rotary style can fillers, keg fillers and other packaging equipment used at Topa.
  • 1-2 years experience managing a packaging team 
  • Excellent time management skills and very organized
  • Strong computer skills
  • Experience with inventory management software
  • Strong problem solving skills 
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Works well with other teams and collaborates with other departments
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to motivate others around them
