Head Brewer

If resort living in a Lake Michigan community sounds good, we have just the position for you! Our brewery is housed in a Civil War era church and is walking distance to Lake Michigan. We are seeking a Head Brewer to lead our team to brew our flagship beers, develop new beers, and ensure the highest quality of our offerings. We are a boutique brewery pizzeria Napoletana where people travel nationwide to enjoy our offerings—all beer is served onsite with no distribution. We are the #1 ranked Brewpub in Michigan based on sales. We are in our seventh year of operation and have gained such popularity that we have doubled revenue over the past 2 years.  

We are seeking a professional with passion for his or her craft and great organizational skills. We have plans for expansion into other cities, which our Head Brewer can choose to be a part of if appropriate or stay at our New Buffalo location.

Our Head Brewer is responsible for all aspects of the brewing process, including brewing, fermentation, cellar work, ordering supplies, cleaning, and keeping up with state and federal recording and reporting requirements.

Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of brewing experience

• Experience ordering ingredients and supplies

• Experience with budgets and inventory

• Quality control experience

• Production schedules

• Strong cleaning and sanitization skills

• Mechanical ability

• Ability to regularly lift to 55 pounds from ground to shoulder high and move 150 lbs along the floor

• Ability to climb stairs, ramps, and ladders

• Canning experience and knowledge

• Educate front of house staff about beers on tap

• Participate in beer events, tastings, and festivals off-site, which may include nights and weekends to ensure the brand resonates with fans

• Willingness to be a team player and communicate well

• Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed according to the operational business needs

• Work closely with owners and GM on forecasting growth and production projections

Preferred:

• Formal brewing education, such as a Bachelor of Science degree, certification, or graduation from an accredited brewing training institution

• Laboratory knowledge and experience

• Proven recipe design experience
