Job Summary:

The Hop Valley Maintenance Manager is responsible for providing outstanding leadership & management of asset care strategy & facilities upkeep including building infrastructure, mechanical systems, & production equipment. They will support the maintenance department & brewery operations by performing a variety of activities around the tactical implementation of maintenance plans to ensure the most cost-effective & efficient operation, encompassing preventive maintenance, parts ordering, equipment maintenance, & employee training & development. They will develop, train, maintain, & administer an organization qualified to maintain all equipment & facilities in a safe & efficient working condition.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties in accordance with company safety policies & procedures including proper lockout tagout, when required.
  • Respond quickly to address any equipment or facility safety issues discovered or brought forward by teams. Maintain equipment to ensuring safe operation for employees.
  • Attend & actively participate in monthly Safety Committee meetings to help encourage a culture of work safety & drive safety improvement initiatives.
  • Work cross functionally with brewery departments, ensuring that the facility & equipment complies with all relevant regulatory agency (FDA, OSHA, ADA, EPA) standards & company policies.
  • Collaborate with Operations & department managers to ensure that equipment is properly operated, cleaned, & maintained per operator-based preventative maintenance & manufacture recommended operational procedures to reduce minor stops & equipment breakdowns.
  • Develop comprehensive maintenance schedules within the financial limitations of the business, current capital projects, & production requirements.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain & Operations teams to communicate, plan, organize, & drive asset care management, including coordinating necessary equipment downtime & resources to complete required maintenance tasks.
  • Prioritize & delegate work that needs to be performed by maintenance personnel. Verify & ensure work is performed in a timely fashion with precision & accuracy.
  • Develop & maintain a comprehensive training program to ensure direct reports have the skills necessary to support proper maintenance of the facility, establishing autonomous maintenance teams that work independently without frequent oversight.
  • Work cross functionally with team leaders, department managers, & quality assurance personnel to improve product quality & production line efficiency.
  • Oversee the purchasing & storing of mechanical, electrical, & instrumentation equipment spare parts. Maintain an organized & structured parts store, ensuring 5S principles are followed.
  • Build strong business relationships with suppliers & vendors to ensure critical parts & service availability. Analyze cost of proposals to reduce operating costs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve the workplace & enhance productivity.
  • Review & audit facility maintenance requirements to ensure completeness, driving action to close any gaps.
  • Determine which maintenance tasks can be completed internally & which work will need to be outsourced to a third party. 
  • Create and/or coordinate, & monitor for correctness, written policies, including SOPs, etc.
  • Manage maintenance reports & area dashboards.
  • Oversee department budget & ensure work is completed within budget parameters.
  • Facilitate and/or attend business meetings as required.
  • Assist in future planning for growth as required
  • Shift flexibility, including the ability to work any shift, any day is required.
  • Other duties as assigned by Senior Leadership.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment. Food or beverage production preferred.  
  • Prior experience in asset care management with a focus on asset care planning & preventative maintenance strategies.
  • A strong working knowledge of OSHA, GMP, boiler codes, & other federal/state regulations for manufacturers with the ability to assist or lead a governmental inquiry or investigation.
  • Current working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) such as MPulse or SAP.
  • Understanding of programmable logic controller (PLC) process control systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of process utility systems including compressed air, refrigeration, electrical, & steam.
  • Experience maintaining, installing & repairing industrial equipment.
  • Experience handling & reviewing blueprints, specifications, schematics, & other engineering documents.
  • Prior experience creating & executing department budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Team leadership experience.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technology certificate, associate or bachelor’s degree in an Industrial Maintenance, Engineering or other related technical fields highly preferred.
  • Formal brewing qualification from the IBD, MBAA, or Siebel Institute preferred.
  • Formal management & leadership training preferred.
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for education.
