Production Manager / Lead Brewer

The Bronx Brewery is looking for a Production Manager/ Lead Brewer to manage the day-to-day operations of beer production at our brewery in the Bronx and pilot brew systems at our East Village and Hudson Yards taprooms as well as management of our contract production partner(s).

The ideal candidate will have formal brewing education and previous experience managing a brewing facility and team producing at least 10,000bbls a year. This is a hands-on, in-person position reporting to the Director of Production.

Key responsibilities for this position include the following:

• Daily management and development of brewing, cellar and packaging staff
• Developing daily and weekly schedules in collaboration with/based on forecasts created by the Logistics Manager and communicating any changes to the team to allow for transparency and accountability
• Developing and communicating production schedules with our contract partner(s) based on forecasts created by the Logistics Manager and ensuring seamless communication with the Logistics Manager and others on The Bronx Brewery team regarding scheduling and finished goods handling
• Management and ordering of Raw and Packaging Materials based on forecasted production
• Ensuring proper use/documentation and timely entry of production activities into our ERM software (Ekos). Acting as a champion of our ERM software to achieve full utilization and return on investment
• Recipe development and necessary updates to existing recipes
• Managing and participating in wort production and associated tasks (milling-in, brew, CIP, etc.) as needed to ensure a consistent product and to achieve yield targets
• Managing and participating in cellar operations (centrifuge operation, filtration, CIPs, harvests, dry hops, gravities, etc.) as needed to ensure a consistent, product and achieve yield targets
• Leading lab work to ensure a consistent, high-quality product, as well as management of our various yeast strains
• Further developing and overseeing our quality assurance program
• Coordinating and performing routine/preventive maintenance and upkeep of brewing equipment and support utilities/systems included but not limited to forklift, air compressor, steam boiler, cold room/walk-in cooler, brew house, canning line, bulk CO2 system, Nitrogen generator, glycol chiller, etc.
• Ensuring cleanliness and organization of the brewery, packaging and storage areas and coordinating with the Hospitality team to ensure shared spaces are utilized to their full potential
• Embodying The Bronx Brewery brand and team values; being comfortable with a forward-facing role, including leading interviews and tastings with external and internal partners, press, etc.

Additional Requirements

• Must be over 21 years of age
• Bachelor’s degree
•  Passionate, creative and organized
• Able to routinely and repetitively lift 55lbs – 170lbs, work around loud noises, and in hot/cold, wet/dry work environments with a range typical brewery chemicals.
• Must be comfortable operating a range of brewery equipment including obtaining forklift certification
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be computer literate, and have familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel) and Google suite (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets)
• Experience managing a team of 5-10 direct reports

Compensation 

This position is salaried, ranging from $75,000 to $90,000, depending on experience, with bonus potential. Benefits include medical/dental/vision/life insurance, paid time off, free breakfast/lunch/snacks at the brewery, a monthly gift card allowance, etc.
