Riverwalk Brewing is a 12 year old brewery in Newburyport, MA. We are looking for our next Production Manager to join us and take over the day to day management of our Production department.


This person will be tasked with ensuring the regular brewing, cellaring and packaging of both Riverwalk beers and also a large number of brewing contracts. This person will lead and direct a team of 3 full time, highly skilled team members with ample experience in the industry.


This is a dynamic position that will have a mix of administrative and direct brewing work so professional brewing experience is required.


The ideal candidate will have:

-Professional brewing experience, both hot and cold side.

-Some recipe scaling and creation experience.

-Experience with creating brewing calendars and packaging plans on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

-Can interact with our contract customers to better understand their needs and vision.

-Experience with creating and following through on repair and maintenance plans for a production facility.

Position: Production Manager

Status: Exempt

Direct Reports: 3 (plus contract and part-time labor)

Reports To: VP of Sales & Operations

Description: The Production Manager oversees the entirety of beverage production, including brewing, scheduling, raw material inventory and ordering, fermentation and packaging. This position is the direct supervisor of the entire production team.

Responsibilities:

Operations Management:

  • Direct and supervise the daily operation of the brewhouse, cellar, shipping/receiving and packaging operations.
  • Create and maintain a detailed production and packaging schedule in conjunction with VP of Sales. Current scheduling standard is a two month forward plan.
  • Drive profitability through lowering costs, increasing volume, increasing yields and improving efficiency.
  • Maintain a high standard of facility cleanliness and organization.
  • Create and ensure Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to and improved upon.

Contract Production Management:

  • Manage and schedule contract production from raw materials to final packaging to meet volume, revenue and profitability goals.
  • Communicate with the VP of Sales to ensure transparency of contract brewing scheduling, needs and expectations.
  • Communicate with contract partners as needed and/or directed by VP of Sales.
  • Adapt and scale recipe and packaging needs for Riverwalk systems and processes.

Facility and Staff Management:

  • Manage and schedule production and packaging staff to maximize productivity and minimize labor costs.
  • The Production Manager is expected to regularly perform brewing, cellaring and packaging operations to meet company needs.
  • Work with CEO and VP of Sales to maintain, update, and facilitate training standards for new or promoted staff members and help promote redundancies.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance of brewery equipment with vendors and trades people in conjunction with CEO.
  • Conduct quarterly and annual performance reviews with all direct reports in conjunction with VP of Sales.
  • Create and maintain a positive work culture.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Maintain brewing areas to ensure operations comply with internal quality, sanitation, and safety standards, as well as FSMA and OSHA regulations.
  • Comply with and enforce the use of all proper safety equipment and processes including PPE and proper chemical handling techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with all Alcohol and Tobacco, Tax, and Trade Bureau (TTB) standards and required documentation in conjunction with CEO.

Material Sourcing and Handling:

  • Manage inventory, storage, and ordering of raw materials, packaging materials, and finished goods to meet volume, sales, profitability and inventory goals.
  • Manage hop, can, and other raw material contracts in conjunction with CEO to ensure adequate supply based on production schedules and forecasts, as approved by CEO.

Record Keeping and Reporting:

  • Manage financial information related to cost of goods sold, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Input product data record keeping, organization, and presentation as required by CEO.
  • Maintain brewing, cellar, and packaging documentation in an organized and complete manner.
  • Provide contract brewing documentation as requested and required by contract partners.
  • Assist in the improvement and creation of brewery management systems and software to streamline ordering, scheduling, and reporting.

Product Development and Quality:

  • Develop recipes and process protocols for new products, in conjunction with senior leadership, to meet company goals.
  • Develop and maintain quality control parameters to ensure company standards are met.
  • Take responsibility for quality and consistency of finished products.
  • Identify, diagnose and develop systems to address quality and consistency issues throughout the brewing process.
  • Communicate and educate company staff in regard to existing and new products and brewing processes.

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of lifting 55+ lbs multiple times on a daily basis
  • Can work in both hot, cold and wet environments
  • Can work in tight areas while twisting, bending, pulling and pushing
  • Can stand on concrete floors for the duration of shift (8-12 hours)
  • Frequently climb ladders and stairs safely on a daily basis


Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
