Vicious Fishes is a multi-location brewery based in the Triangle area of North Carolina. We embrace a taproom-centric model and have four locations to serve our customers. Our production brewery is in downtown Cary, NC. It features a 20bbl brewhouse with a taproom and a large biergarten. Our Apex, NC location features a family-friendly biergarten and our coffee concept, Piranha Joe. Our Angier location hosts our 5bbl pilot brewery and serves as an event venue. We are working now to open additional satellite taprooms in the future. We also have a gastropub in Fuquay-Varina, which is led by its own general manager, who is a peer to the Regional Manager of Taprooms.


Our taprooms are the focal point through which our customers experience the Vicious Fishes brand and our products. Our job every day is to deliver awesome experiences that match up with the needs of each community we serve. The Regional Manager of Taprooms is a leadership role that enables and empowers the team at each taproom with the tools and support they need to continually delight our patrons.


Job Overview:

As the Regional Manager, you’ll directly oversee a team of taproom managers and their assistants. You will also work collaboratively with senior leadership, marketing and production to optimize the customer experience. 


You lead by example and are committed to developing your team and training them to perform at the highest level. You're passionate about creating a warm and welcoming environment for our guests, and you are constantly finding new ways to improve on what we do. You're great at multitasking and you love the challenge of performing in a fast-paced, sometimes chaotic environment. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills.


What you’ll be doing:


Taproom Operations

  • Oversight and management of all taproom operations and budget
  • Lead Taproom Managers to deliver exceptional customer service at their respective locations
  • Author, implement and maintain best practices and procedures for taproom operations and staff behaviors
  • Develop and deliver programs to increase staff understanding of our products, customer care practices and policies
  • Challenge, Support and Empower taproom managers to resolve issues independently and serve as an escalation point when necessary
  • Responsible for managing, interviewing, hiring and training taproom managers at new locations
  • Strong ability to interview and evaluate candidates for taproom staff roles


Compliance Management:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and sanitation regulations, as well as company policies and procedures
  • Ensure each location follows best practices for ABC compliance, according to current regulations and new ones that emerge in the future
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess each taproom’s compliance and mitigate operational risks
  • Implement and enforce best practices for food safety, cleanliness and hygiene standards


Business Management:

  • Cross-check the accuracy of each taproom’s payroll prior to approving such
  • Monitor and audit cash activities, including cash sales, cash tips, safe logs, and paid-out cash expenses
  • Other audit activities surrounding gift cards and rewards redemption, void and comp reports. Ensure compliance with employee discount policies
  • Audit sales reports and compare to inventory purchases and depletions 
  • Set guidelines for taproom purchases and perform approvals and auditing
  • Select and negotiate with vendors for supplementary products sold within the taprooms, including beverages, food, merchandise
  • Set pricing for items sold across taprooms, including beverages we make, beverages we source, merchandise, and other items, as necessary
  • Identify opportunities to grow sales and profitability


Marketing collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with marketing around events, promotions, and beer releases
  • Support marketing with information for each respective taproom such that marketing programs can be tailored to resonate within each community  


Software, Services, Resources

  • Ownership of in-life management of point of sale systems, currently Toast and Square
  • Ownership of time tracking and scheduling software

  • Cicerone Certified Beer Server
  • Experience operating multi-unit taprooms, restaurants or bars
  • Strong leadership and supervisory abilities
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Collaborative spirit with a hands-on attitude and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback 
  • Available to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Strong time management skills
  • BA Degree in Hospitality/Restaurant Management preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age 


Physical demands:

  • Frequent lifting: 25-50 lbs.

Visual, hearing, dexterity, and mental demand:

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job such as operating taproom equipment, setting up tables and chairs, moving cases and kegs of beer, using a telephone, answering emails, etc.

Working conditions:

  • The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a taproom / brewery environment in addition to bars, restaurants, event venues, etc.
