3/28/2021 -- Catawba Brewing Announces Grand Opening of Wilmington Restaurant & Tasting Room

Catawba celebrates the opening of their new Wilmington location with live music, food, beer & more.

Catawba Valley Brewing Company announced the Grand Opening of its new Wilmington location is slated for Sunday, March 28. The event follows a week-long soft opening in which the restaurant and tasting room have welcomed guests for limited hours each day. Regular business hours begin Sunday, and will kick-off with Covid-responsible festivities in accordance with CDC and North Carolina guidelines.

The celebration opens with a Catawba pint glass giveaway from 11am until noon. Live music begins at 1pm with local musician, John Hussman, scheduled for a 3-hour set. Jarrett Raymond, another Wilmington local, plays from 5-8pm. Throughout the day, prizes will be awarded, including Catawba gift cards and complimentary to-go items. Meanwhile, the kitchen will showcase an all-new menu curated by Chef Daryl King, offering inspired food-and-beer pairings, along with some beer-infused selections.

The bar has 24 taps dedicated to Catawba and Palmetto beers, as well as Twisp Southern Hard Seltzer. Approachable fan favorites like White Zombie White Ale and HOPness Haze IPA will be available year-round, while the brewery also serves up an ever-changing lineup from their popular Small Batch Program, which has produced hundreds of innovative and experimental beers in recent years that are exclusive to Catawba tasting rooms. This week’s Small Batch release, Strawberry Mojito Gose, a German-style sour wheat ale fermented on strawberries and conditioned on mint leaves, will be featured at the event.

The Grand Opening of Catawba Wilmington represents the culmination of over two decades in the NC craft beer business for the Pyatt family, North Carolina natives, who have long dreamed of expanding the family business from the mountains to the coast. “We’ve been actively evaluating locations for some time and have come to love the beer scene and lifestyle in Wilmington,” said Billy Pyatt, Catawba’s CEO and co-owner. “We felt we could really integrate and contribute here.”

Peanut Butter Jelly Time Arrives Next Week

The timing of Catawba Wilmington’s Grand Opening is fortuitous as the doors will be open for Catawba’s famous PBJ weekend from April 2nd through April 4th. Catawba’s most popular Specialty Series beer since 2012, Peanut Butter Jelly Time starts as a light brown ale with a touch of wheat in its malt bill, providing the bready base for the star ingredients – whole roasted North Carolina peanuts and a selection of fruit purees.
The release party will feature three specialty variations of the beer in addition to the original Raspberry: PBJT Strawberry-Rhubarb for the third year and two new brews for 2021: PBJT Grape and PBJT Orange Marmalade. Also look for another Small Batch beer to arrive next week, a S’mores Porter made with marshmallow Peeps, called “Where My Peeps At?”

Catawba Wilmington Hours and Location

In February, Catawba purchased the brewery location of Skytown Beer Company, 4712 New Centre Drive, across from Target. Catawba will operate 7-days a week with hours below.
