Catawba's Astral Bootie Beer returns with a new look, a new recipe, and an outdoor gear festival.

Get ready for Astral Bootie Beer like you've never seen it before...with a new label and a hazy twist! One of our all-time favorite summer crushers is set to return in 16oz cans -- now modernized as a Session Hazy IPA.

To celebrate the return of Astral Bootie Beer, we've teamed up with Astral Designs (of course), Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO), Watershed Dry Bags, and Diamond Brand Gear for an Asheville Outdoor Brand Expo at Catawba's South Slope location (Sunday, June 6th, 12-5pm). Our friends from these awesome local companies will set up booths at the tasting room to sell their products and show you the latest summer must-haves in outdoor gear.

About Astral Bootie Beer Session Hazy IPA:

The kayaking dictionary defines the term “boot” as “to leave one’s overturned boat and swim away to safety”. Those grand exits are often celebrated with the paddler consuming a beer served from their own whitewater shoe. In Western NC, consumption of the “bootie beer” has become an oddly respected ritual. So Catawba teamed up with Asheville’s own Astral Designs, manufacturers of the market’s finest whitewater paddling shoes, to honor tradition via the Astral Bootie Beer Session IPA (2015-19).

After hanging up the paddle for 2020, Astral is back and better than ever. This new recipe is a 5.0% ABV Session Hazy IPA that’s meticulously cobbled together from a blend of wheat and oats, then carried on dry-hop rapids of Citra, Rakau, and Amarillo. The end result is bursting with waves of juicy citrus, bright tropical fruit, and fresh stone fruit flavors and aromas with a moderately dry finish. The next time you river warriors are faced with a swim, feel free to go sans-shoe and consume Astral Bootie Beer straight from the can.
