A scaled-back Oktoberfest event!
Lake County’s destination brewery, Buffalo Creek Brewing, is scaling-back its annual Oktoberfest event amid Coronavirus concerns this year in favor of a subtler Oktoberfest-themed weekend, October 2 through 4. The all ages, family-friendly celebration will provide ample space for social distancing, with expansive indoor and outdoor areas that feature sprawling lawns and picnic tables, an oversized biergarten and tented pavilion, and different designated seating and gaming zones spread out over an acre. Owner/Brewmeister Mike Marr is hand-crafting a lineup of authentic German-style beers to complement three days dedicated to the Bavarian beer culture.“We’re toning down the party atmosphere this year but not the party spirit,” said Mike, who is still planning on wearing his Lederhosen. Buffalo Creek Brewing complies with all COVID-19 health and safety standards to protect customers and staff including tables positioned at least 6-feet apart, the implementation of sanitation stations, throw away/contactless menus, and mandatory mask-wearing when not seated.
In addition to live German Oompah music by the brass section of the Lake County Symphony Orchestra (on Friday and Saturday from 5 pm to 8 pm), guests can enjoy Hammerschlagen (nail driving), horseshoes and bags. To fuel the competitive drive, a local food truck will be on-site as well as Mike’s extensive menu of craft beer offerings highlighted by his featured Oktoberfest brew, the Big Ludwigski (a German Märzen with huge amounts of Munich malts, subtle hints of noble hops, and a clean finish). Also being released this weekend is Bus Wedgie (a Munich Dunkel) named after the bus that got stuck under Long Grove’s historic bridge just 23 hours after the grand re-opening. For the kids and non-drinkers, Buffalo Creek Brewing offers hand-crafted, non-alcoholic choices like freshly made ginger beer.
If all that’s not enough or if someone can’t make it to Oktoberfest Weekend, Mike invites beer lovers to visit the taproom or his newly renovated outdoor spaces anytime for a taste of Buffalo Creek Brewing’s exclusive fall specialties, which include creative small batch options every month such as the legendary Pumpkin Pie Ale in November.

About Buffalo Creek Brewing:
Buffalo Creek Brewing is Lake County’s only destination brewery located in the heart of downtown Long Grove (about 30 miles NW of Chicago). What makes the brewery a destination? It’s not in a warehouse or an old rundown building, but instead settled in a transformed art studio in the middle of a historic village. The state-of-the-art brewing facility features Bavarian-style beer and themed taproom, private event room, brew masters lounge, biergarten patio and tent, and sprawling, scenic lawns spacious enough for gaming and social distancing.
