The Chicago Suburb's biggest Oktoberfest is coming to Buffalo Creek Brewing in Long Grove Oct 5!
Lake County’s Bavarian-inspired destination brewery, Buffalo Creek Brewing, will host its biggest beer event yet on October 5th in celebration of Oktoberfest. Owner/Brewmaster Mike Marr is hand-crafting a special lineup of authentic German-style beers to complement this special day dedicated to German-style drinking, eating and playing. The all ages, family-friendly event takes over Buffalo Creek Brewing’s premises in Long Grove, including the taproom, 2nd level Rustic Room, and expansive biergarten and outdoor grounds.2-year-old Buffalo Creek Brewing is not only a place where quality craft beer is made by Mike, it’s a “shared space centered around the art of brewing that connects people and friends.” Oktoberfest at Buffalo Creek Brewing gives credence to this notion. Starting at 12 noon on Saturday, October 5th, Mike honors the age-old Oktoberfest tradition with a tribute to the German beer-making lifestyle. Sponsored in part by the Rotary Club of Long Grove/Kildeer/Hawthorn Woods, Oktoberfest at Buffalo Creek Brewing features live music from the Hirsch German Band mixed with authentic Bavarian activities and games, including Hammerschlagen (nail driving contest), stein holding (beer holding strength contest), barrel rolling, hayrides, horseshoes, and other free family contests and raffles. To fuel the competitors drive, a wide variety of Bavarian food specialties like brats, potato salad, and strudel will be available for purchase. As further incentive to bring the whole family, a children’s cookie contest at noon will give way to big prizes and much more.
Of course, nothing symbolizes Oktoberfest quite like the beer! In addition to Mike’s extensive menu of diverse, Bavarian-style beer offerings, the featured Oktoberfest brew will be the “Big Ludwigski” – a German Märzen with huge amounts of Munich malts, subtle hints of noble hops, and a clean finish. For the kiddos and non-drinkers, Mike offers hand-crafted, non-alcoholic choices like freshly made ginger beer. If all that’s not enough or if someone can’t make it on October 5th, Mike invites beer lovers to visit him in the taproom anytime over the next few months for a taste of his exclusive fall specialties, which will include creative options like (teaser alert): chocolate bacon stout in October, a candy corn small batch during Halloween, barrel-aged bourbon variety in November, and pumpkin pie small batch during Thanksgiving.
Admission to Oktoberfest is complimentary and the whole family is invited.
