This classic style originated as the local ale of Cologne, where it has been brewed since 1906. It has since gone on to claim a lofty standing in the pantheon of German beer. Although Kölsch was never mass-produced on the scale of Germany’s famous bottom-fermented lagers, the style enjoyed a renaissance post-WWII. It has steadily gained in popularity in recent years due to increased exports and American craft interpretations.

Soulshine Kölsch is light in body and appearance, crisp and effervescent, with a hint of muted fruitiness. Its delicate flavor profile is derived through ale yeast fermentation, before finishing at cooler temperatures, making it a hybrid style of sorts with some lager-like character. Soulshine features a traditional pale malt bill, lending subtle underlying sweetness. Noble hops balance the malt character with floral, earthy notes and provide the beer’s characteristic dry finish.

Soulshine Kölsch is the product of a special collaboration with Mountain Khakis of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Founded in 2004, the MK brand is nationally renowned for its premium outdoor clothing and gear, built for the mountain lifestyle. The project is inspired by our companies’ shared mission to protect lands and waterways, making connections between people and nature. A portion of all proceeds benefit the Catawba Lands Conservancy.
