Shedd Aquarium and Revolution Brewing host a launch event for Penguin Hops, a fresh-hopped craft ale

Back for its sixth year, Shedd Aquarium and Revolution Brewing are proud to share Penguin Hops, a fresh-hopped ale brewed with hops grown right here in Shedd’s own sustainable gardens. The beer is a pale ale that packs a conservation punch. One dollar from each beer sold helps support Shedd’s conservation initiatives and mission-fulfilling work.

To celebrate the launch of Penguin Hops, Shedd will host a launch party at the aquarium after hours. Tickets to the event give guests full access to the aquarium and a sample of the Penguin Hops beer. Attendees can also enjoy a live DJ and delicious food like lobster mac and cheese, loaded tater tots, pulled pork, penguin-shaped cookies and more. Brewers from Revolution will be on-site to talk about the process for creating the Penguin Hops beer and other Revolution favorites.

Later, guests are invited to compete in a fun trivia session, with three rounds of questions meant to test their knowledge about penguins, beer and horticulture. A free round of Penguin Hops is at stake for the winning team.

The event is also timely, as experts from the aquarium will head to South Africa in November to assist our partners at the South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), who are often overwhelmed during this season with penguin strandings and rescues. For an additional $50, guests at the Penguin Hops launch can participate in a Penguin Encounter at 6 p.m. to get an up-close experience with a penguin and learn more about what it takes to care for these curious animals.
