Green Flash hosts 2nd annual Treasure Chest Fest in Virginia Beach to raise money for breast cancer
While construction is in full swing at Green Flash Brewing Co. in Virginia Beach, the brewery is setting up their 2nd annual Treasure Chest Fest in an open air spot just across from the construction site (corner of General Booth and Corporate Landing). The event is a fundraiser for local breast cancer charity: Susan G Komen, Tidewater.Treasure Chest Fest will feature an exceptional lineup of over 20 Green Flash beers including several rare and new releases, Alpine offerings, a number of creative cask ales and several barrel aged beers from their latest Cellar 3 collection. Many of the beers at the fest have not been served outside of the brewery’s San Diego tasting room, if at all.
To celebrate the area’s bustling beer and culinary community, Green Flash has invited several breweries from the region to participate in their 2nd annual Virginia Beach festival. To enhance the fest experience, and complement the expansive craft beer lineup, Green Flash has also lined up local restaurants and artisan food purveyors from the community to share small plate samplings to pair with the beers. Live music from local bands will serve as entertainment for the afternoon, and guests will have an opportunity to meet Green Flash founders and San Diego area brewers.
The Green Flash Treasure Chest program is an annual breast cancer fundraiser featuring a national beer release supported by events in select markets from coast to coast. All proceeds from festival ticket sales are donated to Susan G Komen, Tidewater. The cause is near and dear to the brewery’s heart, as the brewery co-founder, Lisa Hinkley is a 5-year Breast Cancer survivor.
The Treasure Chest 2015 beer release is an exotic IPA with grapefruit, prickly pear juice and hibiscus flowers (see description of beer below) and will be available for the first time nationally in 22 oz bottles through mid-November. The event’s theme is inspired by this year’s beer style, presenting a tropical Hawaiian motif through promotion materials and on-site elements. The brewery is encouraging guests to dress for the occasion in “tiki attire” (i.e. floral shirts, leis, hula skirts, etc.).
