Wachusett Brewing Company today announced that Christian McMahan, who most recently served as a managing partner of creative agency Smartfish, would join the Massachusetts-based craft brewery as its new president. McMahan, who previously spent 2 1/2 years as the CMO of Heineken USA (2008 – 2010) and worked for six years as the vice president of marketing for Diageo (2002 – 2008), will officially join Wachusett in mid-June.
Speakeasy Ales & Lagers has officially staved off extinction. Two months after announcing plans to cease brewing operations and ready for a sale, the San Francisco-based brewery today said former Horizon Beverage Company owner Cestra Butner, via the newly launched “Hunters Point Brewery” holding company, had acquired its brewing equipment assets and brands.
Hopsy, an online marketplace and beer growler delivery service headquartered in the Bay Area of California, has expanded to craft beer-soaked San Diego with the opening of a 4,500 sq. ft. distribution center and retail shop. The company, which delivered beer from over 20 Bay Area breweries to more than 10,000 customers during its first year, began selling products this month from a number of well-known San Diego breweries, including Coronado Brewing and Belching Beaver.
Less than two years after purchasing a 50 percent stake in California and Chicago-based craft beer maker Lagunitas, Heineken International today announced it was coming back for the other half of the fast-growing U.S. craft brewery. Specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, however the remaining 50 percent stake could be worth about $500 million, based on a previous valuation of the Lagunitas business.
Anheuser-Busch InBev significantly bolstered its High End division’s craft and import portfolio today when it announced plans to purchase one of the most acclaimed producers of sour, barrel-aged and hoppy beers in the U.S. — North Carolina’s Wicked Weed Brewing. In the five years since it launched from a small brewpub in downtown Asheville, Wicked Weed has claimed numerous World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival medals, scaled production to roughly 20,000 barrels, built three additional brewing facilities spanning a cumulative 150,000 sq. ft., grown to 210 employees and expanded distribution into 10 states and Washington D.C.
Anheuser-Busch InBev is making its first U.S. craft brewery purchase of 2017, today announcing the acquisition of North Carolina’s Wicked Weed Brewing. Specific financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed and the deal is subject to regulatory approval.

Florida’s Fat Point Brewing has finalized its sale to Seaboard Craft Beer Holdings, the parent company of Tampa Bay’s Big Storm Brewing. A purchase price was not disclosed, but Seaboard co-founder L.J. Govoni told Brewbound that the transaction included various brewery assets as well as the rights to the Fat Point brand.

Oregon-brewed beer dominated draft lines across the state once again in 2016, according to the Oregon Brewers Guild, which today reported that 64.9 percent of all beer served on tap came from an in-state producer. That’s up nearly 2 percent from 2015, when 63 percent of all draft beer sold in Oregon was made by an in-state brewery.
