Pelican Brewing has announced plans to open a new brewpub in Cannon Beach, Ore., which, when complete, will be the third facility the company operates in the state.
Construction on the brewpub, which will include a small brewhouse and restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, is scheduled to begin this fall. The company anticipates a public opening next spring.
Pelican currently operates a brewpub in Pacific City – its flagship operation that it opened in 1996 – as well as a production facility and taproom in nearby Tillamook. The production facility opened in 2013.
Coinciding with the company’s plans to expand the brewpub model, Pelican has also announced the hiring of John Newman to serve as corporate chef in charge of overseeing the development of menu creations at all three Pelican locations. Newman, who has owned and operated two of his own restaurants, was one of Pelican’s chefs when the company first opened in 1996, according to a company statement.
The company’s leadership could not be reached for further comment as of press time, but CEO Jim Prinzing told Brewbound in October that Pelican had acquired a plot of land adjacent to its newest facility for further growth, though it is unclear if that’s where the new brewpub will be located (its Tillamook facility is about an hour south of the Cannon Beach address provided by the company).
At the time, Prinzing said the company was also considering the purchase of additional property for construction of a new packaging hall.
