Brew Talks New England at Jack's Abby

Brew Talks New England will take place at Jack's Abby on Monday, October 24 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM ET and consist of craft beer business discussions and industry networking. Brew Talks events provide a platform to widen your perspective, engage with like-minded beer industry professionals and find new ways to grow your business.

    Rob is part of a trio of friends who left their day jobs to follow their passion for brewing. Rob graduated from college with a strong love for craft beer. Post-college Rob worked for 6 plus years in the technology industry in Boston. In early 2012 Rob and his two other Co-Founders launched Night Shift Brewing in Everett, MA. For the past 4+ years Rob has lead the brewing team at Night Shift pushing for innovation and the creation of unique beers. Rob also serves as a the President of the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Brewers Guild where he works to protect and promote the state's brewing industry.

    William kelley Jr. is the President of the Beer Distributors of Massachusetts Inc., the leading trade association in Massachusetts advocating on behalf of family-owned businesses in the beer distribution industry and working to promote the responsible use of the products they distribute. Mr. Kelley advocates in the legislative, regulatory, and public policy arenas. Mr. Kelley also practices law with the Boston firm of Considine & Furey, LLP, being “of counsel” to the firm since February 2014. Mr. Kelley has represented businesses in all three-tiers of the beverage alcohol industry as well as companies who service the beverage alcohol industry. Mr. Kelley’s background involves counseling businesses, including representation in litigation arising out of government enforcement actions. Prior to becoming President of the Beer Distributors of Massachusetts Inc., Mr. Kelley was the General Counsel of the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (“ABCC”) from 1991 until 2013. As the in-house counsel to the general supervisor of beverage alcohol industry in Massachusetts, he advised Commission members and staff on licensing and compliance issues with retail, wholesale and supplier businesses, drafted legislation and regulations, tracked and prepared policy positions and commentary on proposed legislation and regulations at both state and federal levels, and supported legislative committee chairmen and staff on proposed legislation.

    John P. Connell is a Boston lawyer who has been in private practice since 1992. John routinely represents breweries, wineries, distilleries, wholesalers, brokers and retailers both in TTB and ABCC licensing applications and compliance matters but also in litigation. John's practice sees a lot of distribution contract drafting and litigation before the Massachusetts ABCC when manufacturers seek to break away from their wholesaler. This summer, John successfully represented Nashoba Valley Winery in a well covered lawsuit against the Massachusetts ABCC which caused a change in the law this year that now allows wineries, breweries and distilleries to sell and pour their own products at multiple locations within a farm or orchard.

Massachusetts Alcohol Laws to be Discussed at Brew Talks New England

Taking place at the Jack’s Abby brewery (100 Clinton Street, Framingham, MA. 01702), the Brew Talks event will bring together New England brewers, distributors and other industry professionals for a night of open, honest discussion on the craft beer marketplace. The evening’s feature panel discussion will examine the current alcohol laws in Massachusetts and look at a variety of legislative issues, including franchise law reform, licensing clarification efforts, pay-to-play concerns and even marijuana legalization initiatives.
