Brewbound is pleased to announce its next speaker for the Brewbound Session in San Diego, Calif. on Dec. 5: Pete Slosberg, the creator of Pete’s Wicked Ale.
Slosberg launched Pete’s Brewing Company in 1986, growing it from a small two-man, one beer operation to a publicly traded company with 85 employees, a portfolio of six offerings and television commercials. By 1993, Pete’s Brewing was the fifth largest microbrewery in the country, was growing at an average annual growth rate of 150 percent and had sales of $12.2 million. Three years later, total sales had eclipsed the $70 million mark and in 1998, Slosberg sold his company to Texas-based Gambrinus.
As an avid entrepreneur, Slosberg brings a wealth of business knowledge to the Brewbound Session from inside and outside the beer industry. In recent years, he’s founded a chocolate company, re-entered the beer space with Mavericks session beers and volunteered as a business mentor for the Clinton Foundation.
In a moderated discussion with Brewbound editor Chris Furnari, Slosberg will reflect on three decades in the beer industry, lessons learned as an entrepreneur and the circumstances that allowed Pete’s Brewing to succeed. He’ll also discuss his most important strategic business decisions and what he perceives are the differences between building a craft beer brand during the 1990s versus today.
The Brewbound Session, which will be held at the Paradise Point Resort & Spa, is a full-day conference for beer industry professionals. The event focuses on the strategic marketing, brand building and business development issues that most directly impact craft brewers. A variety of distribution, retail, investment and branding discussions are offered.
